Malagan wall plaque carved from alstonia scholaris wood and ornamented with shell, ochre, pigment and resin. The carving shows a bird killing a lizard and represents a clan totem destroying an evil spirit. It would have been displayed in a malagan mask house during a funeral ceremony. Purchased from Captain Leeman in 1883. New Ireland Province, PNG.
