Wooden figure - stylised version of a Nimba mask. Baga People. Guinea. The Nimba mask represents the goddess of fertility - the embodiment of women's social role, beauty and influence. The mask is used in dances to mark momentous events in personal and community life, such as weddings and funerals but also planning and harvesting crops.
