Malagan figure carved from alstonia scholaris wood and ornamented with shell, ochre, fruit fibre and resin. The birds on the top and in front of the body represents the totems of the clans relating to this figure. Tabar Islanders identify this figure as Ekwar. It would have been displayed in a malagan house during a commemorative ceremony. Purchased from Captain Farrell in 1887. Northern New Ireland, New Ireland Province.
