Malagan hornbill mouthpiece carved from wood and ornamented with shell and feathers. This bird is the totem of the deceased and their group. The bird is clenched in the mouth of a dancer, put on a stick to be carried or inserted into the mouth of a static malagan. Each bird differentiates one group from another as each have a different bird as their totem.
