Malagan mask reprenting human head ornamented with shell and coral pieces. This is a matua style walking mask used during the final ceremony to honour the deceased. The bird and fish designs featured on the ear planks represent the motifs or totems of the deceased and their family. Purchased from Captain Farrell in 1887. Northern New Ireland Province, PNG.
