Malagan mask made from wood, lime, ochre, fibre, cane, barkcloth, twine, rattan and calico. Calico came into the region with trade goods and was recycled by New Irelanders in their mask making. Often one can see writing on them which indicates what the goods were and where they came from. Purchased from Captain Farrell in 1887. New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea.
