This painting on European cloth depicts the Balinese demon Kala Sungsang. It was painted in the 1920s by the artist Pan Seken who, at the time, lived in the Balinese village of Kamasan. Pan Seken was the oldest living artist while Anthony Forge was in Kamasan and he provided much of the documentation on the older works in the collection, particularly those painted by his contemporaries in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Forge collected the painting in 1971-72. Size: 87x82cm
