This painting on European cloth was painted by Pan Ngales in 1921 in the Balinese village of Kamasan. It depicts Samudra manthana (Churning of the Milky Ocean) one of the most famous stories in the Puranas, ancient Indian religious texts. Anthony Forge collected the painting in the Klungkung district of Bali in 1971-72. Size: 160x132cm
