This painting, was probably painted by the artist Kak Loui (c.1860-1930) in the early 20th centuryon in Kamasan. It is on thin European cloth or sheeting. The painting portrays Sita’s Ordeal - a scene from the Ramayana, an ancient Sanskrit epic in which Sita undergoes trial by fire to prove her faithfulness to Rama, her husband while she was held prisoner by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka.
